Well my friends, it's been a long time since I updated this Blog. We are now well into the 2010 season. The first two nights were not the successes we were hoping for, but the next three nights, the 23rd, 29th and the 30th, are all sold out. We look forward to hosting the Rhinelanders and the S-Bahn again. If you've missed out on booking your tickets you can always contact me at victoriaoktoberfest@shaw.ca to get yourself on our wait list.
We have serveral new dancers joining us this year, it's nice to have a full compliment out on the dance floor!
Prosit!

OPEN HOUSE A BIG SUCCESS!!!
Yesterday evening we held our first dance group Open House. Nearly 50 people came to learn the elusive schuhplattler, and judging from the smiles on their faces as they left, all had a good time.
Starting at 4pm we began with demonstrating the two full dances that we were going to teach that evening, the Dreirsteirer and Kruetz Koenig. We let the visitors decide which to begin with, the men were eager to try the Dreirsteirer (2 women and 1 man...hmmmm...) It was fun to watch, our dance floor was full of twisting, turning, and laughter. Some people caught on faster than others, and there was some frustration, but every man in the room had a smile on his face!
After a 5 minute beer break (we did advertise "authentic"!) Dave took the stage to teach the Hauerhaun schuhplattler. Everyone, men and women, crowded the dance floor. The concentration level was high! I think we'd better watch out at Oktoberfest, we have 50 people ready for the schuplattler competition!
Another 5 minute break and then into the Kruetz Koenig (the "flying dance".) Everyone really seemed to grasp this one. A few groups even became airborne! (Mike, did you sign them up?!)
We finished the evening with a bratwurst and saurkraut dinner. Must've been good because some came back for seconds! We may have come out of this evening with a couple more dancers for our group, but more importantly we've raised awareness of our club. I heard several times that people didn't know that it exsisted, or that there was an Oktoberfest held here. We certainly saw this as a success and are hoping to do this again in the future, perhaps make a regular event out of it. Hope to see you there!

Open House
By Cara Weirmier
Well, I think I've almost figured out this blogging thing!
Now I can announce our first open house that will be hosted by our dance group. We are inviting everyone down on April 26th at 4pm for an afternoon of dancing fun. We will be teaching the traditional schuhplattler dances followed by a beer and bratwurst dinner, and it's free! There's no obligation to join our group, we'd just like people to come out and see what it is that we do. Think of it as preparing to win the dance competition at Oktoberfest '09! So register now! Please email us at wmaw@shaw.ca to book a spot. Bring your spouse, some friends and your dancing shoes!
Prosit!

We're baaaaaaack
by Cara Weirmier
So here we are, back by popular demand after a one year hiatus! We've decided, after not performing in 2008, that it is time to return to the dance floor. Our numbers are still low, but we missed Oktoberfest last year and are hoping to increase our numbers.
There was just such an urge to get out there and dance...
We hope to host more events in the future and we sincerely hope that you all come out and join us! You can check here, or the Victoria Edelweiss Club's website for event listings.
